What we believe...
The mission of the school counseling program at Trillium Springs Montessori School is to provide a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate school counseling curriculum that is aligned with the ASCA national standards for school counseling programs. Our program will focus on the needs, interests, and issues related to the stages of student growth. Through academic, career, and personal/social development and in partnership with students, staff, families, community, and workforce, we will strive to prepare our students to achieve success in school, live rewarding lives, and develop into productive members of our society.
What we offer...
The counseling program at TSM provides individual, small group, and classroom guidance activities to help meet the needs of all students. Please check out the informational video clip below to better understand the functioning of a school counselor:
More about the specific services the counseling program provides:
Individual Counseling- Based on student need, your child may qualify to receive one-on-one counseling each week for a period of 4-8 weeks during the school day. Times are selected by teacher, counselor, and parent so that classroom assignments will not be missed. Students may also be referred for Play Therapy if a non-direct approach is more appropriate. Referrals are done through parent or staff member. Parent permission is required before any child may meet with the school counselor or school counseling intern on a recurring basis.
Small Group Counseling - Based on student need, your child may qualify to participate in a small group comprised of 4-6 students who will be working toward a common goal together for a period of 6 weeks. Group members will benefit from meeting together as they will all share a common need or concern and will support one another during this time. Possible group topics this year may include: grief, friendship skills, social skills, family changes, anger management, and coping skills. Parent permission is required before meeting with a student in a small group.
Classroom Guidance - Based on classroom needs and dynamics, whole-group guidance lessons will be delivered weekly this school year to each classroom at Trillium Springs Montessori. I will be using the Second Step curriculum to teach students about self-control, empathy, mindfulness, and Grace & Courtesy.
