Guidance Classes
December
In December the entire school focuses on Kindness and Generosity! I challenge all families to join us in our Random Acts of Kindness week December 3-7 (or the entire month)! You can use a random acts of kindness checklist and try to see how many your family can check off during that week. See below for some great ideas!

November
This was a month all about gratitude! Students got to pass around Mr. Turkey and share things they were thankful for in their lives. We created thank you cards for special people that we appreciate and got to deliver them!
Upper elementary worked on an extended anti-bullying project in November: Unity Trees. Please check out their work below!
October
Students in primary learned about what it means to be a good friend to someone else. They learned that even if our friends play with someone else for a little while, or don't feel like playing one day, they are still their friend and are likely not being mean. Students learned about how to respond to someone who does something unkind before telling an adult. They practiced saying "It makes me feel ______ when you ______. Please ________." If this response does not work, then they may need to involve an adult to help.
Students in Lower El learned about bullying, types of bullying, and how to handle bullying. This helpful chart will make it easier for children to understand when an action is bullying, mean moment, teasing or conflict:
September
Students in primary learned about self-talk! Self-talk is what we do when we talk to ourselves out loud in a quiet voice or inside our heads. Self-talk helps kids and adults alike focus and maintain attention. Primary students got to practice their self-talk by completing the drawing challenge where they could only draw the correct picture by listening and focusing on my instructions and ignoring distractions using their self-talk!
Students in Lower Elementary learned about self-talk as well! They used self-talk to help them stay focused during the game of "It's A Match" where they got to stand up once they heard the same word repeated 3 different times while listening to a list of random, but related words.
All students got to do Mind Yeti this week! www.mindyeti.com
Before leaving Guidance, students did the Belly Breath MY session to calm and re-center themselves for afternoon learning!
